About Event
The UNESCO-IOC and BMKG have initiatives to hold the UNESCO-IOC Global Tsunami Symposium on the Reflection of the Two Decades Indian Ocean Tsunami 2004 Commemoration. The symposium will bring together scientists, engineers, practitioners, and policy-maker from all over the globe to discuss the state of the art and the latest advances in tsunami science and engineering for better tsunami disaster preparedness, and mitigation.
Objective
To commemorate 2 decades after 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
To reflect what has been achieved by each regional tsunami warning and mitigation system in two decades.
To identify gaps, challenges and priorities for tsunami early warning.
To identify synergy with global challenges and coherence with global commitments. Shared learnings between countries and application in the Regional Oceans.
To gather global tsunami community.
Scopes
Pre-Event (8–9 November 2024): International Scientific Workshop hosted by IABI in collaboration with USK-TDRMC.
Main Event (11–14 November 2024): the 2nd UNESCO-IOC Global Tsunami Symposium.
Special Event: Posters Sessions, Exhibitions and Ignite Stages.
